Infectious diseases expert: 'Zero COVID is not a reasonable proposition medium to long term'
Getting eradication or elimination of the delta variant is very difficult if not impossible, says Infectious Diseases physician Professor Peter Collignon. "If you look at New Zealand where they locked down after one case that getting eradication or elimination of the delta variant is very difficult if maybe not impossible," Professor Collignon told Sky News host Laura Jayes. "There is some hope that you might be able to do it but a large city like Melbourne ... it can be quite difficult because it gets into communities that are essential workers with crowded accommodation, lots of children ...spread mainly in the workplace and the home. "I think that's what's happening in Auckland as well. "But even if you do get rid of it it's almost inevitable it will come back, so I think zero COVID is not a reasonable proposition medium to long term."
